Going off the end of the school year and leading into summer, I like to have a theme for my reading. Last year I spent the summer discovering books I felt like I should have discovered much earlier in my life. That may not seem like much of a theme, but it made sense to me. With the end of school two weeks away, I’m only now beginning to wonder what will guide my choices for summer reading. For my next year AP Language students, and in case anyone else is interested, I thought I’d give a list of highlight reads from the past year. Maybe this can help get some of you thinking about what you want to read once school is out.
The Indian by Jon Gnarr
Suspended Sentences by Patrick Modian0
The Savage Detectives by Roberto Bolano
The Peripheral by William Gibson
The Art of the Lathe by B.H. Fairchild
If these books have anything in common for me, it would be that for each I knew very little about them when I started reading, and they all surprised me in a variety of ways. I know that can be risky in terms of a recommendation.
